Sarah, age 23, was born with Pitt Hopkins syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects her mobility and speech. Her journey into adulthood has been an emotional road. While planning for her future, we found current housing solutions were not a good fit for our family.
Sarah's friend Brooklyn, who is 19 years old, was born with Rett syndrome, a neurological disorder that leaves her unable to speak, walk, or effectively use her hands. She is GTube fed and battles epilepsy. Brooklyn's brother Boston is 15, a two-pound preemie and later was diagnosed with both Down Syndrome and Autism.
Housing options for special needs are limited, especially for those with higher support needs. As parents age, our options become limited as well. How would we spend quality time with our children if we needed to move into assisted living? Why not create an aging solution for all of us? We will all need the same kinds of care.
We all need community.
We all need peace of mind.
Peace of Mind Community LLC is developing a new model focused on keeping families together as they age within a supportive community. We want to create the best of all worlds in one place.
Wherever you are in your journey to support your child or family member, we want to provide options. From vacation to respite to residential housing, our goal is to provide support, independence, and community. Parents will have the option to build a future without worry. A future including a nurturing community for your loved one as well as travel freedom for parents. A place for your special someone to call home forever.
We can't wait to meet you and work together to create a community for us all to learn and advocate for better solutions for our adult special needs children.
Brooklyn and Boston's mom, Kelly Butler, worked together with Sarah's mom, Ingrid Harding, for nine years supporting hundreds of special needs families affected by Rett syndrome through an organization they launched called Girl Power 2 Cure. They are teaming up again to help families in their next chapter as questions around aging start to take center stage. Peace of Mind Community, LLC is the first step in bringing new ideas to light and developing a housing and respite model that will reach families with higher support needs.
Help us understand where we can add value to the current approach to aging with special needs. Your story matters! We need better options.
